Dr Steven Whiting

Dr Whiting has over 20 years of medical experience, graduating from the University of Queensland in 1997. He worked in a variety of roles in hospitals throughout Australia before completing his General Practice Fellowship. His General Practice experience has included practices through Tasmania and Queensland, as well as overseas postings in Vietnam, and with the Australian Federal Police in the Solomon Islands. He has also worked with the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Charleville. During this time, he developed an interest in Sports Medicine and completed a master’s degree in Sports Medicine through the University of Queensland.

For the past 5 years, Dr Whiting has been based in Canberra as the Chief Medical Officer for the Canberra Raiders Rugby League team, as well as providing private outpatient clinic Sports Medicine services. He has served as Matchday Doctor during the 2017 Rugby League World Cup, travelled to Papua New Guinea with the Prime Minister’s 13 Kangaroos tour, covering the Australian Schoolboys Rugby League tournament in 2019, and provided game-day coverage for the WNBL finals series in 2019.

Dr Whiting is BeWorkFit Mackay’s Sports Medicine specialist. His sports clinic is open to all sports-related medical issues in adults and children.

After Hours

We do not offer after hours appointments. After hours assistance is available the Emergency Department at the Mackay Base Public Hospital. There is also the Mater Emergency After Hours Service located on Willets Road, North Mackay. This is a walk-in service only and fees apply.
